Language is the foundation of any story.  And, story is how we make sense of anything.  If I took you to the number one selling movie of the year and hyped up the fact that it’s pegged to win an Academy Award and that it has excellent ratings, you’d look forward to seeing the movie.  Upon arrival at the theater, if we find out that the movie is in Spanish and you only understand English, the movie wouldn’t make any sense to you. Only when you make sense of anything are you able to understand and master it.  The same is true for money and its secret language.

Language is the foundation of any story.  And, story is how we make sense of anything.  Once you make sense of something, you understand and can master it.  When it comes to mastering money, I’ve said that there are two languages.  There’s the financial language of money which is all about the MATH and the STRATEGY behind being efficient with money to make it grow and do the things you desire to do with it.  People rightfully spend a lot of time on this language on their journey to mastering money. But if mastering money were simply about the MATH, no one would be in debt and everyone would be millionaires living very satisfying and fulfilling lives.  

So, we know there’s more to this than just the MATH or STRATEGY…the financial language of money.

The second language of money is really the key that unlocks the door to a financially empowered, purpose filled, yet satisfying and fulfilled life.  Money is as simple as a piece of paper with a dead president and some digits on it. But, it’s complex in that it impacts our lives on so many levels that are emotional, unspoken and unconscious.  These various ways in which it impacts our lives is what I call the emotional language of money. Mastery of money begins with understanding your money story.

What money means to you, what it says to you and what you say with it is part of your money story.  Your money story is a large part of your life story. Though some of your money issues are about money, most are about other matters.  And while those matters may be private, secret, sacred, unspoken, emotional and even unconscious, these issues are all hitchhiking on money.  And until you become aware of them and deal with them, they will routinely sabotage even the best strategy you’ve built around your money, while also precluding you from having a satisfying and fulfilled life.
